چکیده

We present a new hardware-efficient paradigm for universal quantum computation which is based on encoding, protecting and manipulating quantum information in a quantum harmonic oscillator. This proposal exploits multiphoton driven dissipative processes to encode quantum information in logical bases composed of Schrödinger cat states. More precisely, we consider two schemes. In a first scheme, a two-photon driven dissipative process is used to stabilize a logical qubit basis of two-component Schrödinger cat states. While such a scheme ensures a protection of the logical qubit against the photon dephasing errors, the prominent error channel of single-photon loss induces bitflip type errors that cannot be corrected. Therefore, we consider a second scheme based on a four-photon driven dissipative process which leads to the choice of four-component Schrödinger cat states as the logical qubit. Such a logical qubit can be protected against single-photon loss by continuous photon number parity measurements. Next, applying some specific Hamiltonians, we provide a set of universal quantum gates on the encoded qubits of each of the two schemes. In particular, we illustrate how these operations can be rendered fault-tolerant with respect to various decoherence channels of participating quantum systems. Finally, we also propose experimental schemes based on quantum superconducting circuits and inspired by methods used in Josephson parametric New Journal of Physics 16 (2014) 045014 1367-2630/14/045014+30$33.00 © 2014 IOP Publishing Ltd and Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft Content from this work may be used under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence. Protected gates for superconducting qubits

We analyze the accuracy of quantum phase gates acting on “0-π qubits” in superconducting circuits, where the gates are protected against thermal and Hamiltonian noise by continuous-variable quantum error-correcting codes. The gates are executed by turning on and off a tunable Josephson coupling between an LC oscillator and a qubit or pair of quits; assuming perfect qubits, we show that the gate...

In this study, we consider a composed system consisting of two identical non-interacting subsystems. Each sub-system is made of a moving qubit into a leaky cavity. The study of the dynamic of the composed system revealed that compared with the stationary qubits, entanglement, quantum discord and coherence between two moving qubits remained close to their initial values as time went by. In parti...

Universal quantum computation with two- and three-qubit projective measurements

We present a finite set of projective measurements that, together with quantum memory and preparation of the |0〉 state, suffice for universal quantum computation. This extends work of Nielsen [Nie01], who proposed a scheme in which an arbitrary unitary operation on n qubits can be simulated using only projective measurements on at most 2n qubits. All measurements in our set involve two qubits, ...

Dynamical generation of noiseless quantum subsystems

We combine dynamical decoupling and universal control methods for open quantum systems with coding procedures. By exploiting a general algebraic approach, we show how appropriate encodings of quantum states result in obtaining universal control over dynamically generated noise-protected subsystems with limited control resources. In particular, we provide a constructive scheme based on two-body ...

Quantum computation by communication

We present here a new approach to scalable quantum computing—a ‘qubus computer’—which realizes qubit measurement and quantum gates through interacting qubits with a quantum communication bus mode. The qubits could be ‘static’ matter qubits or ‘flying’ optical qubits, but the scheme we focus on here is particularly suited to matter qubits. There is no requirement for direct interaction between t...
